Raised on the beaches of Southern California, Julia Hall has been a student of flow for as long as she can remember. In dance, music, art and life, the essence of movement and momentum captured her attention early on, creating passions for both dance and ice skating. She set out to capture this hypnotic swirl of unpredictability, form and flow in The Velvet Series, a colorful, spirited set of paintings based on concepts she has been working on for decades.These vibrant “swirls” capture the essence and intrigue of everything Julia is drawn to. From the lyrical beauty of migrating humpback whales along the deep blue California coast to the very ebb and flow of the vast ocean itself. It is in these images that Julia finds her connection to the rhythm and poetry of every day life and it is through sharing these paintings with her audience that she finds a deeper understanding and connection to the colorful world around her.
